Vivian Leflore Mora, fine artist
I paint because I can't imagine not painting.
For me, painting is an essential part of living. I’m exploring abstraction using acrylics in combination with other media to depict thoughts, emotion and/or scenes through color, surface texture, and forms. I sketch out or design most of my pieces on paper or computer before picking up a brush. However, the work becomes more and more intuitive as it comes to life. Often, the original sketch or design merely becomes the "bones" or structure from which a new work emerges.
My work is vivid and tends to reflect the joy that I find in just being part of this world. I love working with the basics, primary color. I'm working in mostly water and dry media: acrylic, watercolor, ink, color pencil and collage. My pieces are built, layer by layer, using brushwork, imprinting, lettering, knife work and pouring. I work on several pieces simultaneously. My pieces can be thought of as paintings upon paintings because I work each stage until I'm satisfied with all aspects of it even though I know it's rarely the final view.
My work is constantly evolving. Everything I encounter has the ability to inform my work. Although I am primarily focused on abstract expression, I continually challenge myself as an artist to just create!

Vivian’s work has been exhibited in group exhibitions and juried competitions throughout Texas. She has garnered recognition and awards locally and nationally in the categories of non-objective abstract art; mixed media; and drawing. She also leads an annual workshop on abstract expression. Born in the Mississippi Delta, Vivian resided in New Orleans, LA; and Madison, WI before making her home in Houston, Texas with her son, three dogs, and a turtle known as Kurome.

Support for Girls Inc of Greater Houston
I am grateful for and humbled by the support shown for my art since I made the decision to share my work publicly. The support of my patrons have made it possible for me to donate several art pieces to charitable organizations. I truly believe in "pay it forward" and will continue to do just that! Girls Inc of Greater Houston is an extraordinary organization with which I have been associated for the better part of a decade. I am fortunate to be able to once again commit to supporting one passion with another! For the past several years, I have donated artwork or a percentage of sales from my artwork to Girls Inc of Greater Houston. My plan is to continue this tradition. Upon request by the collector, for any original art sale, 25% of the sale will go to support Girls Inc. Just let me know that you would like to support Girls Inc. So come by the studio or attend the Girls Inc. events!! If you are not familiar with the amazing work this organization is doing towards inspiring girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold, please visit the website at http://www.girlsinc-houston.org/ |
